JOREM AND SHEILA CATILO

Trust in the Lord’s timing. Go through the seasons with Him. Trust in what He wants you to do. When the Lord shakes things up, it only means He has something better for you.
— Sheila

The Catilos are known to be one of the Philippines’ most sought after wedding/lifestyle photographers. A few years ago, I had sent Sheila a message via Facebook when Dave and I were starting out with our photography here in Canada. I stumbled into one of their works through a friend’s page and couldn’t help but be inspired by the images I saw. As a husband and wife team of photographers, I felt the need to reach out to them to tell them how their works have inspired us. Who would’ve thought that 3 years later, they would become one of our subjects for our Life Unscripted Project

Looking back at our session last May, I still find it surreal that I was there, standing in front of this lovely couple and their beautiful girls (Sky, 6; River, 3; Luna, 8 months) snapping away… capturing bits and pieces of their afternoon.

Here are some snippets of the time I spent with them, exchanging stories about family, work, and the importance of finding love in the little things.

Every time I was pregnant, I kept asking for normal things. What if He wants something extraordinary for my child? What if He wants to use her testimony for someone who needs to hear it? . . . Then my perspective changed. It realigned our priorities, our vision for our children.

Si Sheila, she’s embraced the fact that she’s a mother — now, we have 3 kids. She’s really coping great, doing a good job of adapting, changing.
— Jorem
What I love about Jorem is he never fails to make me feel important. He makes it a point that I feel appreciated. As a father, I don’t think I can ask for a better dad for my kids. As a husband, he’s always been my best friend.

Despite their hectic schedules, Jorem and Sheila always find time to be with family. They’ve learned to balance their priorities with Sheila being home for the most part, and Jorem being the breadwinner. Parenthood has certainly brought its own share of joys and obstacles for Team Catilo but if anything, these experiences have only made them stronger.

“This season, childhood — hindi mo na mababalik yan. Ang trabaho, laging nandyan lang. Your career will always be there waiting for the right time to ripen and be picked. . . Simple joys we tend to overlook, we now appreciate”, Sheila shares. That “joy” was certainly present everywhere that afternoon. And I was fortunate enough to be a part of that.
