MIRIAM QUIAMBAO-ROBERTO

I wanted to write a book because I’m just so grateful for what God has done in my life. Before I met God, I was a divorcee, I was scammed off my life savings, my spiritual life was was nothing, my career was going down the drain, my life direction was going the wrong way.

I remember when I was on my way to Miriam’s house. I had her book in one hand, and my camera in the other. There were questions running through my head: How will she be like? Is she as friendly as she seems on TV?  After all, Miriam was an actress, TV host and of course, made the Philippines proud by bringing home the First Runner- up title of Miss Universe in 1999. "He Can Catch You When You Fall" talks about being given a second chance in life. “The greatest blessing is really the knowledge of God. His love for me, His great love for everyone,” she shares.

Miriam is married to Ardy Roberto, a well-known Christian author in the Philippines. As I rang the bell to their beautiful Greek-inspired home, their son Joshua (Ardy's son in his first marriage) welcomed me with a huge smile. I informed him that I’d be taking photos of him, mom and dad as they went about their usual day at home. He eagerly grabbed my camera and took some photos of his mom and his surroundings. I loved seeing how carefree he was. Ardy joined us an hour later.

Here’s what happened that day as they shared their afternoon with me.

Mommy and Joshua making one of his favorite dishes: Pizza! They made their own version of a Four-Cheese pizza and it was yummy!

I allowed Joshua to invite me into His world . . . It was a gradual warming up to each other. As we spent time together, once in a while, we would have dates Joshua and I — somehow that bond was developed.

Joshua wanted his mom to walk like she did in the Miss Universe pageant, giving her all sorts of directions, so he can take photos of her. Too cute!

I take responsibility for my mistakes. I thought I knew better than God. I was living my life without Him. But, I have no regrets because of what God has done to my life. He has given me a wonderful testimony which people can identify with.

I never knew married life could be this beautiful . . . Each morning I wake up happy and content and so blessed, and then Joshua comes in and we do our tickle rituals and bonding sandwich hugs. It’s been a blessed life. It’s really been a blessed life.

There was a time I felt I was pushed to the wall because everything, all aspects of my life have crumbled. But if God has promised me that He has a future planned for me and that I have hope in Him, I’m going to hold on to this hope and never let it go.

I have learned that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful. The wheel of life doesn’t stay up all the time so we have to learn to rise every time we fall. Miriam’s life story is the perfect example of this. “Everything I have right now, it would not be possible if not for God,” she states. She is definitely one of the simplest, down-to-earth celebrities I’ve had the privilege of knowing.

The other day, I stumbled upon this quote by Junethea Crystal Centeno that seems very appropriate for Miriam's story: “Sometimes, struggles are exactly what we need in life. If God allows us to go through life without obstacles, we would not be as strong as what we have become.”

I couldn’t agree more.
